What is Speech Therapy?
Speech therapy is a field of expertise carried out by a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) also known as a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of communication difficulties and speech disorders.
What is Teletherapy? Is it as effective?
Teletherapy (online therapy) is simple therapy being carried out over video. The same level of engagement and interaction is required.
Despite popular belief tele-therapy (online video therapy) has been shown to be an effective method of treatment. Based on recent research tele-therapy leaves patients feeling even more satisfied than face-to-face therapy. (Source: Molini-Avejonas et al., 2015; Sutherland et al., 2018; Covert et al., 2019)
How long do sessions usually last for?
Assessment sessions usually last between 60-90 minutes long. Therapy sessions can last between 30-60 minutes depending on your child’s age and level of engagement.
How do I know if my child needs Speech Therapy?
Simply call for a free consultation session and express your concerns. I will evaluate whether or not therapy would be the most appropriate option for your child.
Do I need to prepare anything before a session?
No, however, before an assessment session, it would be helpful to know that your child has had an up-to-date hearing test.
Where do sessions usually take place?
There is no set base. Sessions can take place in your home or at your child’s school/pre-school/nursery.
